Solarize SE Portland comes to SMILE
Sep 26th, 2009 by PK
Last month, the Energy Trust of Oregon’s, Lizzie Rubado came to SMILE to discuss a fantastic buying opportunity for residents and guests. Lizzie has been managing the Solarize SE Portland Project which is creating a bulk buying opportunity for home owners throughout Portland. We had a standing room only crowd with a substantial representation from SMILE residents!
In short, home owners are looking at the purchase of a solar photovoltaic system for a significant discount in price. There are many reasons why these prices are low. Among those reasons is the huge over supply of solar modules on the market as well as the bulk purchase order. Imagine Energy is the contractor selected for execution of this project and they have committed themselves to $6.80 per Watt. In solar terms, that extremely low, especially for a home installation.
The deadline to sign up for this group purchase was September 15th. There were 335 people in this first round of participants. But have no fear, as this looks like a very promising indicator of things to come. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about solar for your home, please check out Solar Oregon. It’s Oregon non-profit resource for learning about, advocating for and going solar. Also, feel free to contact the folks at Sustainable Sellwood. We’re planning a Sustainable Sellwood Homes Tour and solar will be plentiful.
